EMR

Name: Victoria Halford
Job title: WEEE Compliance and Business Development Manager, EMR
Time spent in recycling: 11 years in waste in total, some of which is in recycling operations or consultancy.
What does your job involve?
There are two parts to my role. As a Business Development Manager, I source new WEEE opportunities and secure them for EMR – this includes with our current and prospective customer base as well as internally supporting EMR’s network of depots to pursue such opportunities. As a WEEE Compliance Manager, I actively support receiving depots and WEEE operations in maintaining compliance as well as assessing compliant options for pursuing the aforementioned opportunities.
What is the hardest part of your job?
The geographical spread of EMR’s 60+ depots across Great Britain!
What three things help you to do your job better?
Ongoing learning (which is in abundance in WEEE), seeking more feedback about performance, developing a wider network of people within the wider WEEE/metal recycling industry
What are you most proud of in your career?
Getting my CIWM chartership and WAMITAB.
What are the best and worst things about the metals recycling sector?
Best: the variety of tasks/opportunities I am involved in, particularly in light of the upcoming regulatory changes in the sector. Worst: what are you talking about, there are no worst things 😊.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Make yourself accountable and learn from mistakes as they help you grow and become a better person
