Under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, it is illegal for yards to pay you cash for your scrap metal. After verifyling your identity, dealers can pay you using a bank transfer or a crossed check. In England and Wales only, they may also use specific pre-payment cards. Cash Stoppers is a BMRA initiative to enable members of the public as well as scrap metal dealers to anonymously report dealers breaking the law and paying cash.
